Introduction of School of Finance and Trade

Founded in 2016, School of Finance and Trade was formerly the Department of Economics. Under the guidance of the national strategy “vocational education serves regional economy”, specialty clusters were integrated and constructed. Accordingly, two clusters, Accounting and Commerce, have been established, dedicated to the cultivation of quality technical talents for the financial services industry. With teaching experiences and unremitting efforts of more than 30 years, the school has formed a comprehensive system bridging secondary vocational education and higher vocational education and integrating higher vocational education and degree education. Moreover, a Teaching-Practice talent raising model featured “classroom and company alternation, simulation and practice complementarity, training and management integration" has been built, leading to significant achievements and recognition. The school has won the first prize of the National Excellent Practice Teaching Achievement Award in 2010, the first prize of Guangdong Province Vocational Education Teaching Achievement Award in 2014, the second prize of People's Republic of China Vocational Education Teaching Achievement Award in 2014, the first prize of National Logistics Vocational Education Teaching Guidance Committee Teaching Achievement Award in 2017, and the title of "National Cross-border E-commerce Professional Training Model School" in 2018.

School of Finance and Trade runs programs of 9 majors, including Accounting, Financial Management, Logistics Management, E-commerce, Marketing, International Economy and Trade, Economic Information Management, Asset Evaluation and Management, and Securities and Futures. There are 57 classes in the school with 2,433 students enrolled. Among these programs, Accounting, Logistics Management, and E-commerce are provincial key disciplines of Guangdong. At the same time, Accounting and LogisticsManagement aremajors in the High-level Construction Program of Guangdong Province. Moreover, Accounting and E-commerce are provincial brand specialties; Logistics managementisa demonstration specialty in Guangdong Province; and Marketing is a pilot program for the “modern apprenticeship system” in Guangdong Province. Consequently, the school has become an important base for the cultivation of high-skilled business and accounting talents in the Pearl River Delta region.

The school is among the earliest nationwide to establish financial and trade teaching and practice base. It now has one Computerized Accounting Training base financed by the central government, and one provincial off-campus practice and teaching base of Guangdong. The school has innovated in the establishment of a school-based productive training base, integrating “Teaching, Learning, Practicing, and Managing”, known as “Teaching Company”. In 2011, it was awarded the title of “Excellent Teaching Enterprise” by the National Higher Vocational College of Business Administration Teaching Guidance Committee of Ministry of Education of China.

The school attaches great importance to the construction of scientific research and social service innovation teams. In the past three years, it has undertaken 18 projects at or above the municipal level, including 2 major projects. There are currentlya Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Industrial Development Research Center, one provincial professional leading talent, seven school-level scientific research and service teams, and four enterprise master studios and innovative entrepreneurial mentoring studios in the school. Teachers and students have jointly achieved outstanding results in the integration of production and teaching in the fields of “Beidou+” Smart Logistics, E-commerce 3D/AR Technology Application, Big Data Marketing, Business Data Analysis, Smart Finance and Taxation and Cross-border E-commerce, and have obtained the2017 Car Networking Application Innovation Award and other honors.

School of Finance and Trade has a faculty of high academic level, great influence and strong vigor. There are 91 faculty members and more than 70 part-time teachers. Among them, there are 4 professors, 25 associate professors, 6 doctors and 61 masters. The proportion of teachers with professional qualifications and certificates or with more than 2 years of corporate working experience has reached 100%, and the proportion of dual-skilled quality teachers has reached over 90%.

The school pays attention to the integration of theory and practice teaching and cultivates students' ability to solve practical problems in skills learning. The majors set up in our school are closely related to the national and local economic construction, and the graduates are rather favored in the industry and society. In the past three years, the overall employment rate of graduates of School of Finance and Trade has been 100%, and the passing rate of qualification tests has been over 95%.

Student activities of the school are diverse and of distinctive features, through which we continuously cultivate and improve students' comprehensive quality and abilities such as innovation and entrepreneurship, teamwork, organization and leadership, communication and coordination. Our school has a recognized “Excellent Student Work Team” in Guangdong Province andan established studio of the outstanding counselor Yi Guang. In recent years, our students have achieved extraordinary results in social practice andcollegecultural and sports fairs held by the state and the province, including the National Vocational College Skill Competition, "Challenge Cup" National College Student Extracurricular Academic Competition, National College Student Mathematical Modeling Competition, Guangdong Industry Polytechnic Skill Competition, POCIB National Foreign Trade Competition, National College Student Marketing Contest, National College Student Market Survey Contest, the National Summer College Social Practice, the National Network Ideological and Political Education Work Competition, the National College Orienteering Competition and so forth. Since 2011, our school has won 11 national first prizes, 19 second prizesand5 third prizes,and27 provincial first prizes, 40 second prizes and 32 third prizes.

The school pays high attention to internationalization and actively carries out international exchanges and cooperation with internationally renowned universities. It has established close strategic partnerships with more than 10 famous universities in Australia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore and other countries and regions. The international exchanges of our school cover many aspects such as student exchange, teacher exchange and cooperation research. From 2015 to 2018, 28 students have been sent abroad for exchange, with an average annual growth rate of 10%, accounting for about 50% of the figure of the Polytechnic. With the expansion of the international influence of the Polytechnic, the school has admitted the first intake of 25 overseas students from 14 countries and regions.
